At the time the animals stayed with foster families until a permanent home could be found. CLICK HERE ![]() ![]() The Virginia Beach SPCA is a non-profit organization founded in 1966 to promote a humane community and to prevent cruelty to animals. In 2004, the VBSPCA received nearly 5,000 homeless and abandoned animals. The Virginia Beach SPCA is the best place in South Hampton Roads to find the right pet for you! Our animals are all spayed or neutered, and come with all of their shots except rabies, which can be administered here for an additional small fee. (G.R.R.E.A.T) was established in the Hampton Roads area in 1990 to serve the Tidewater area (view map) from the North Carolina/Virginia state line to Richmond. It is a volunteer-staffed, non-profit organization that rescues abandoned and unwanted Golden Retrievers and places them in approved adoptive homes. To date, over 400 Goldens have been rescued and placed. The dogs come from a variety of places such as animal shelters, S.P.C.A.s, and homes where owners either no longer want their dog, or due to circumstances, can no longer keep their dog.
